While things may not have turned out like Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils hoped, their performance in the 2024 College Football Playoff will be remembered forever.
The Sun Devils clashed with Texas and made for one of the best games of the season, and the viewership numbers more than reflect that fact.
The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl generated a whopping 17.3 million viewers and peaked at 23.6 million. The numbers trailed only the Rose Bowl matchup between Oregon and Ohio State, which peaked at 24.3 million. The game became the most-watched pre-three p.m. bowl game in college football history.
Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham responded on social media to the numbers, saying, “Compete vs the Best…….. Compete for Championships……… Live in a GREAT CITY…….. With a fan base that’s Activated …… And a school that’s all in…….. ASU is THE MOVE.”

In their first year as members of the Big 12 Conference, Dillingham’s group won the Big 12 Conference outright with an 11-3 overall record. They capped off the 2024 season with a win in the Big 12 Championship game over Iowa State before falling to Texas in double overtime.
While higher-ups in the world of college sports tend to turn a blind eye to the Big 12 Conference and its exciting brand of football, Arizona State made a massive statement in the space, competing with the best and earning the league some new-found respect.
