In the midst of an incredible season with the Washington Commanders, former Big 12 head coach Kliff Kingsbury has become a hot name to watch in coaching circles.

Kingsbury is still actively receiving money from the Arizona Cardinals, who fired him in 2022, which gives the former Red Raiders coach a buffer window to find the right job.

FOX Sports’ Peter Schrager provided an update ahead of the NFL’s Week 18 slate, mentioning that Kingsbury is in no hurry to accept a new job.

“I’ve seen a lot everywhere that Kliff Kingsbury’s a hot name for this team and this team and this team, and let me make the record clear here: unlike a lot of these other candidates, Kliff Kingsbury is still being paid his full salary by the Arizona Cardinals from when they fired him three years ago,” Schrager said. “He’s not only making that this year, but he’s also making it through 2025, so I can tell you from sources that Kliff’s not banging down the doors for any job at all.”

Kingsbury has been an instrumental piece in the Commanders’ fourth-ranked offense, largely due to his relationship with former Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. Washinton trails just three teams in total yards per game, two teams in rush yards per game, and four teams in points per game.

Schrager finished his thoughts, saying, “It would have to be the right job for him to, A, even interview, and B, accept that job.”

Kingsbury spent five years in the Big 12 Conference as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2013-2018, where he coached the NFL’s best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes II. He then left the league for the NFL, where he took over as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Kingsbury was fired after three years and has since bounced between college football and the NFL.
