Rich Rodriguez continues to stay busy in the transfer portal for the West Virginia Mountaineers. On Sunday night, former North Carolina linebacker Ashton Woods announced he would be committing to WVU.
Here was his post on social media.
The Marietta, Georgia product was a three-star recruit in the Tar Heels’ 2024 signing class and chose Carolina over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pitt, Tennessee, UCF, USC and others. He was a two-time all-state selection and two-time region defensive player of the year.
Woods played in six games, seeing only a handful of snaps on special teams and defense. Woods has three years of eligibility remaining.

The Mountaineers have holes to fill at linebacker due to the departure of Josiah Trotter and Trey Lathan in the transfer portal. This is a great get for Rodriguez and new defensive coordinator Zac Alley.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and remained open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
