According to a report from NFL Network’s Jane Slater, the New Orleans Saints head coaching search could end up bringing a former Pac-12 coach to The Big Easy.
Former Stanford head coach David Shaw is set to interview for the job, per Slater, and currently serves as a senior executive for the Denver Broncos.
Two sources informed tells me the Saints are gonna interview David Shaw for their HC position,” Slater wrote on Twitter. “Shaw is currently a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos. Shaw was the HC at Stanford for 12 years and coached QBs like Andrew Luck and Davis Mills. He also has an extensive background in the NFL as Asst HC with Eagles, Ravens and Raiders.”
Shaw was once regarded among the very best young coaches in the industry, with a 54-14 record and three Pac-12 titles through his first five seasons, and he’s still got plenty left in the tank at just 52 years old.
During his time at Stanford, Shaw compiled a 96-54 record over 12 seasons, with five Pac-12 Championship appearances and three Pac-12 titles. The Cardinal went to bowl games in each of Shaw’s first eight seasons but failed to make a bowl in the last four years of his stint. After going 14-28 from 2019-22 and 3-9 in each of his last two seasons, Shaw was ultimately dismissed at the end of the 2022 season.
