Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are losing a key player to the transfer portal, with senior linebacker Jeff Roberson electing to depart the program.

Roberson, a 6-foot-2 senior from Choctaw, Oklahoma, spent the previous four seasons in Stillwater under Mike Gundy.

The Oklahoma native took the field in three seasons for the Cowboys, totaling 72 tackles, three sacks, and one interception. In 2024, Roberson had his best season to date with 58 tackles, three sacks, and a pick.

Coming out of Choctaw High School in the Class of 2020, Roberson was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 890th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 32nd-ranked player at his position and the 11th-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma.

An impressive player in his class, Roberson chose the Cowboys over offers from 12 different programs, including Nebraska, Texas Tech, Kansas, Wyoming, Memphis, Minnesota, and more.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and will remain open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
