On Tuesday night, Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils returned a massive name from their 2024 roster, with star quarterback Sam Leavitt returning.
Leavitt quickly became a star this fall in his redshirt freshman season, leading the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff and a Big 12 Championship in his first year as a starter.
In his first season at Arizona State, Leavitt shined as the starter. He completed 216 passes for 2,885 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 24-6. He also showed some flash in the rushing attack with 110 carries for 443 yards and five scores.
After starting his career at Michigan State, Leavitt elected to transfer to Tempe to play for Kenny Dillingham in the team’s debut Big 12 season.
Coming out of West Linn High School in the Class of 2023, Leavitt was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 311th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 18th-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Oregon.
Leavitt is one of many stars running it back in 2025, as multiple starters have announced their intention to return to college next fall. One key playmaker joining Leavitt at ASU is talented wideout Jordyn Tyson, who quickly cemented himself as one of the nation’s top pass catchers in 2024.
With Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson back in the fold, Arizona State’s offense should remain one of the Big 12’s best units despite the loss of star running back Cam Skattebo.
