In a recent interview with Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show, Big 12 legend Darren Sproles discussed which athlete in the NFL reminds him of himself and his playing days.

The answer, while not so surprising to fans of the Big 12, was former Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn, who hasn’t seen the field much for the Dallas Cowboys since being drafted.

“Deuce Vaughn,” Sproles said. “But they have to play Deuce Vaughn. Let him go out there and rock.”

The former All-American hasn’t seen the field much for Dallas since being selected with the 212th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but recently showed some flash in the Cowboys’ season finale loss to Washington. Vaughn carried the ball six times for 37 yards, giving him an average of 6.2 yards per carry on the day.

While Vaughn lit it up for the Cowboys in the 2023 NFL Preseason, he has seen just 40 carries for 110 yards and 10 grabs for 58 yards in his NFL career.

While at Kansas State, Vaughn chased former Wildcat Darren Sproles’ records and had some success running down the NFL great. Sproles finished his career as the Wildcats’ all-time leading rusher (4979, in four seasons), a record that he still holds, followed closely by Vaughn, with 3,604 yards in three years.

Vaughn enters the NFL offseason in an interesting situation as the Dallas Cowboys have the option to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy and seek the second head coach of Vaughn’s NFL career.
