West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez went out and made a splash hire at defensive coordinator, luring Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Zac Alley away from Norman to take the job.

Alley previously worked under Rodriguez at Jacksonville State and holds both the title of defensive coordinator and assistant head coach with the Mountaineers and with the elevation in the title comes a pretty substantial bump in pay.

Alley’s contract with WVU, which is set to run through February 28, 2028, will make a base salary of $250,000, with supplemental compensation of $1,250,000—bringing his total compensation up to $1,500,000.

As the Tulsa World‘s Eric Bailey points out, this new contract will nearly double Alley’s $850,000 price stage during his lone season at Oklahoma.

In 2021, Alley went to Louisiana-Monroe where he was both the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach before being hired by Rodriguez at Jacksonville State in 2022.

Alley called the defense under Brent Venables, along with coaching linebackers coach; this past season in Norman.

Under his direction, the Sooners finished the regular season 11th in rushing defense, 55th in passing defense, 21st in total defense, and 34th in scoring defense.
