Oklahoma State vs. BYU Predictions
Both BYU and Oklahoma State enter the matchup with first-year head coaches after BYU’s Mark Pope made the jump to Kentucky and the Cowboys elected to fire Mike Boynton. In their first year at the helm, Kevin Young and Steve Lutz are working to establish their identity on the basketball court for years to come.
The Cougars are led by a multitude of talented players, including Richie Saunders, Egor Demin, Kanon Catchings, Fousseyni Traore, Trevin Knell, Dawson Baker, and more. The leader in the clubhouse is Saunders, who returned to Provo in 2024-25 and is averaging 13.9 points per game on 51.8% shooting from the field.
On the other side of the court, the Cowboys have found success behind a pair of former Big 12 league members, Marchelus Avery and Bryce Thompson, as well as Xavier transfer Abou Ousmane. The trio are posting 35.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
The major statistical difference in the matchup comes when dealing with Oklahoma State’s defense and BYU’s offense. The Cougars are the Big 12’s sixth-best scoring offense, averaging 80.5 points per game, while the Cowboys check in as one of the league’s worst defenses, allowing opponents to score 73.3 PPG.
