While Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks lost a disappointing game to No. 2 Iowa State on the road, they also lost one of their best players in the game due to an injury.

Kansas forward KJ Adams collided with an Iowa State defender and suffered a shoulder injury, which caused him to depart for the locker room twice in the matchup.

When discussing the injury to Adams, Self confirmed that it is a shoulder injury but doesn’t know how severe it is or what a return timetable looks like. He also added that Adams will be “very lucky” to avoid missing any time.

After sustaining the injury, Adams was helped off the court and went back to the locker room with 15:42 to play, where he remained for three minutes. Adams then hopped back into action at 12:47, where he provided some spark for the Jayhawks. Several minutes later, at 7:08, ESPN’s camera crew showed Adams returning to the locker room yet again. He would eventually return to Kansas’ bench at 6:40, where he remained until the end of the contest.

He finished his day with four points, four assists, and six points in the team’s 57-74 loss. Adams has been a big part of Self’s roster over the past few seasons after committing to Kansas in the Class of 2021. In 2024-25, the Texas native is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
