According to a report from 247Sports’ Michael Swain, Kansas forward KJ Adams will miss Saturday’s game against Kansas State with a separated shoulder, as head coach Bill Self announced on Friday.
Adams suffered the injury early in the second half of KU’s 74-57 loss to Iowa State on Wednesday night and is considered “week-to-week.”
“He’ll play moving forward, but he won’t tomorrow. He had a separated shoulder that we feel at this time it’s still week to week. Knowing the injury and knowing how tough he is, a lot just depends on strength and range of motion. He’s already made progress but he’ll be reevaluated again into next week.”
After Wednesday night’s game, Self discussed Adams’ injury and confirmed that it was a shoulder but didn’t know how severe it was at the time, but did add that Adams would be “very lucky” if he didn’t miss any time.
After sustaining the injury, Adams was helped off the court and went back to the locker room with 15:42 to play, where he remained for three minutes. Adams then hopped back into action with just under 13 minutes left and provided some spark for the Jayhawks. Several minutes later, at 7:08, ESPN’s camera crew showed Adams returning to the locker room yet again. He would eventually return to Kansas’ bench at the 6:40 mark, where he remained until the end of the contest.
He finished his day with four points, four assists, and six points in the team’s 57-74 loss. Adams has been a big part of Self’s roster over the past few seasons after committing to Kansas in the Class of 2021. In 2024-25, the Texas native is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
No. 9 Kansas (12-4) will host Kansas State (7-9) for a 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon, with coverage provided on CBS.
