Following Oklahoma State’s fifth loss in conference play this season, first-year head coach Steve Lutz gave some thoughts to the fanbase amid the team’s struggles.
While the team currently sits at 2-5 in league play near the bottom of the Big 12 Conference, Lutz called for belief in the humanity of his players.
You have to believe in humanity,” Lutz said. “You have to believe in people with good character, and these guys have good character. So I have to continue to believe that at some point, it will mean enough to them that they will do it for 40 minutes instead of 15, 18, or 28. They’ve done a lot of really good things, but they haven’t done it for 40 minutes yet.”
The Cowboys have won two games this season in conference play against (1-5) Kansas State and (0-7) Colorado. In their seven total games played in the regular season, Oklahoma State has been outscored 528-468 against conference opponents.
Lutz finished his comments off, saying, “I’ve got to believe in them, but I’ve also got to make sure that, myself as the coach, I’ve got to get them there. Somehow, some way, I’ve gotta get them there. If I shorten the rotation or maybe extend people on the bench, I don’t know. But I’ve gotta figure out something.”
Oklahoma State returns to the court next on Sunday, January 26th, vs. Texas Tech at 2:00 p.m. central, on the road in Lubbock, Texas.
