Fans of the Houston Cougars basketball team received some good news on Saturday morning, with an update regarding the health of their star player.
Junior guard Emanuel Sharp Jr. was given the green light to return vs. No. 12 Kansas in their clash on Saturday, January 25th.
“Houston coach Kelvin Sampson told ESPN that Emanuel Sharp has the ‘green light’ from the UH trainer to return against No. 12 Kansas today (6:30 ESPN),” ESPN’s Pete Thamel wrote. “Sharp is No. 7 Houston’s second-leading scorer (13.8 ppg). He missed the Utah game on Wednesday this week and was spotted in a boot. Sampson said Sharp is to ‘give it a go.'”
Sharp, a 6-foot-3 junior from Tampa, Florida, has been with Houston for three seasons and is averaging double-digit points in back-to-back seasons. This winter, Sharp is posting 13.8 points, three rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 45.9% from three, and 92.7% from the foul line.
His presence is a major reason for Houston’s continued dominance in the Big 12 in 2024-25, with the team sitting atop the league as the lone unbeaten team in conference play. The Cougars have won 11 straight games, dating back to a 79-51 win over Butler on December 7th. The unit has lost just three out of their 18 games played, with losses coming against No. 11 Auburn, No. 9 Alabama, and San Diego State by a combined 14 points.
They head to Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 25th, to clash with a dangerous Kansas team on a two-game win streak at 5:30 p.m. central.
