After suffering their third loss of the regular season to the Houston Cougars in dramatic fashion, one member of the Kansas Jayhawks taking some heat is senior guard Dajuan Harris.
Harris missed two free throws with 18 seconds remaining vs. Houston, which opened the door for the miraculous comeback.
Despite his output as one of the nation’s best passers and defenders, Jayhawk fans have started to quit on Harris as his offensive production and outside shot leave a lot to be desired.
Houston coach Kelvin Sampson and ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla came to the defense of Harris after the loss, calling out those opposed to the veteran point guard.
“There’s not a point guard I respect more in the country than Dajuan Harris,” Sampson said. “Just a winner.”
Fraschilla then responded to the tweet, saying, “So glad Kelvin said this. The Kansas fans who are upset with Dajuan Harris are fools and don’t know basketball. In most of Bill Self’s 22 years, there are one or two pros out there. Harris, with them out there, would have had 18 assists yesterday.”
In the double-overtime loss, Harris finished with a near double-double with eight points and 12 assists. In the end, it was Houston who got the job done with a 92-86 win to climb to 8-0 in league play in 2024-25.
