We are less than a week away from thestart of college baseball and D1Baseball started releasing lists of the top players at each position. In this article, I will discuss each Big 12 reliever who made D1Baseball’s Top 100 list.
#5 Gabe Davis (Oklahoma State)
The tall (6’9”) righty from Choctaw, Oklahoma takes the top spot on the list for the Big 12. Last season Gabe cut his walk rate in half as a sophomore and his 28.6% strikeout rate in 2024 certainly caught the attention of quite a few people. It appears that he made a big impression with the Collegiate National Team which helped him take the number one spot.
#16 Kris Sosnowski (UCF)
Kris had a breakout 2024 season as a redshirt sophomore where he posted a solid 3.38 ERA with 40 strikeouts over 37.1 innings. Sosnowski Limited opposing hitters to a .239 average and had a 25.8% strikeout rate last season.
#34 Stone Cushing (BYU)
The Big 12 saves leader a year ago, Stone returns as the go to closer out of the bullpen for the Cougars. His walk rate (16.4%) and his strikeout rate (30.3%) were well above average Stone throws a nasty slider that generated a 42% whiff rate in 2024.
#39 Logan Bevis (Texas Tech)
Coming in as a transfer from South Florida, Logan Bevis brings his electric arms to Lubbock. As a true freshman in 2024, he made 14 appearances on the mound for the Bulls and didn’t allow an earned run in seven of his 14 outings.
#52 Casey Hintz (Arizona)
Once a two-way player for the Wildcats, Casey looks to move into a pitching only role going into the 2025 season. He led Arizona in appearances (27) last season and punched out 28 hitters in 22 innings on Cape Cod last summer.
#58 Tony Pluta (Arizona)
Tony was a key piece of the Arizona bullpen last season making 25 relief appearances for the Wildcats and went 2-1 with two saves while posting a 3.07 ERA. He issued just two walks all year and did not surrender a home run. Tony also limited opposing hitters to a .213 batting average a year ago.
#70 Robby Porco (West Virginia)
The only problem Robby has had during his time in Morgantown is staying healthy. His injury struggles have limited him to 46.1 innings over two seasons. But when he is healthy, watch out. His fastball is up to 99 and he is not someone a lot of batters will want to face.
#87 Dalton Smith (Kansas)
Smith is a junior college transfer coming in from nearby Kansas City CC. He spent two seasons there posting a 4.93 ERA in 38.1 innings pitched with 26 walks and 40 strikeouts and three saves in 30 career appearances.
#93 Carson Marsh (Cincinnati)
As a true freshman last season, Cason made a big impact right away. He made 24 appearances in 2024 and had a 4.30 ERA in 44.0 innings of work. Carson looks to take another big step in 2025.
#97 James Guyette (Kansas State)
This appears to be more of a projection pick than anything because Guyette’s numbers aren’t great (22.50 ERA in 5 appearances). He worked with pitching coach Rudy Darrow to help his mechanics and it certainly helped. James had a dominant summer in the Appalachian League, striking out 41 in 23 innings.
