Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady pitches against Odessa College during a fall softball exhibition Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Rocky Johnson Field.

Last weekend was the official return of college softball, as all 11 programs from the Big 12 were in action across the country.

It’s hard to make any definitive statements after one weekend of action, but failing to acknowledge that there were some surprising outcomes would be negligent, too. I didn’t have Louisiana Tech beating Oklahoma State by four runs on my bingo card, but I also didn’t see UCF coming back from a five-run deficit against a ranked Missouri team, either.

But, that’s Big 12 softball for you.

Here’s a comprehensive schedule of the most notable Big 12 softball games of the week, spanning from Friday morning all the way into Sunday evening.

Big 12 Softball Schedule (Feb. 13-16, 2025)

2025 Clearwater Invitational

The Big 12 will be represented at several tournaments across the country this weekend, none bigger than the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, where both Oklahoma State and UCF will be in attendance. Texas Tech is headed to Austin for the Texas Tournament, as well as a few other notable games from around the conference.

Prediction: Oklahoma State goes 3-2, UCF goes 4-1

Both Oklahoma State and UCF will get five games this weekend, barring any cancellations due to weather, and I’ll be very intrigued to see how they perform.

The Cowgirls will face four ranked teams and an Auburn team that ranks the highest among all teams receiving votes in this week’s poll. That’s going to be a tough ask, but I’ll take the Cowgirls to go 3-2 on the weekend, with wins over Kentucky, Auburn, and Alabama, but losses to UCLA and Texas A&M.

UCF has a more manageable slate, but still faces several tough challenges, including a pair of games against top-10 teams. They’ll roll into this weekend with momentum after upsetting Missouri, so I’ll go with four wins and a loss to Texas A&M.

2025 Bevo Classic (Texas Tournament)

The top-ranked Texas Longhorns will host Texas Tech, Maryland, and UMass this week at Bevo Classic at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas. The Red Raiders and Longhorns will play twice, with both games on SEC Network+.

Prediction: Texas Tech splits with Texas

Texas returns pretty much everyone from their run to the WCWS finals last season, and is the odds-on favorite to unseat Oklahoma as the champions this season.

However, NiJaree Canady and these Red Raiders will certainly see this as an opportunity to announce their arrival. TTU upsets the Longhorns on Friday night and lose a close one on Sunday.

2025 Getterman Classic (Baylor Tournament)

After getting off to a rocky start last weekend in College Station, the Baylor Bears are back in Waco and will host Hofstra and third-ranked Oklahoma for the Getterman Classic. The Bears and Sooners will play two games over the weekend, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday afternoon.

Prediction: Baylor splits with OU

This isn’t the same Oklahoma team that we’ve seen over the last four years, but they’re still incredibly well-coached and overflowing with talent. Baylor, on the other hand, has more returning experience and should be able to take one of two against the Sooners.

2025 Littlewood Classic (Arizona State Tournament)

For the second consecutive week, Arizona State will host a tournament with great competition coming to Tempe, Arizona. This weekend, they’ll see some familiar faces as former Pac-12 rivals Oregon and Washington are in town.

Prediction: Arizona State splits games vs. ranked teams.

I think the Sun Devils will upset one of their Pac-12 visitors. Both the Ducks and Huskies have great roster makeup and excellent coaching, so it will be difficult. However, I do see them taking care of one of those two teams.
