Johntay Cook, a former Texas wide receiver and five-star prospect in the class of 2023, is in trouble with the law for the second time in as many weeks.

Just over a week after being arrested in Fort Worth on multiple charges, Cook has once again been booked into a corrections facility in the Lone Star State. According to arrest records in Grayson County, Texas, the former Texas and Washington wide receiver was booked into Pottsboro Police Department for marijuana possession of less than two ounces.

Cook is no stranger to making headlines, but unfortunately, the headlines have rarely been related to his play on the field.

From his comments about Texas’ swimming trophies during a recruiting visit to talking trash on Quinn Ewers after leaving the Longhorns’ program to transfer to Washington, and then subsequently being dropped by the Huskies, it’s been a wild ride for DeSoto (TX) native.

His booking date, February 14, comes just 10 days after he was booked in Tarrant County for multiple charges. Among the charges against him, according to the Tarrant County Inmate Logs, are interference with public duties and misdemeanor theft (property value of greater than or equal to $100, but less than $750).

Cook spent the last two seasons at Texas and appeared in 19 games for the Longhorns, posting just 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns.

As one of the top players in the Class of 2023, Cook had a bright, athletic future based on potential alone, but it appears he’s chosen to pursue other things rather than football.
