Thanks to some recent struggles, three basketball teams from the Big 12 Conference have seen their odds of winning a National Championship in 2024-25 plummet this week.
Those three teams are Baylor, Kansas, and Cincinnati, all of which were expected to make a deep run in March after being selected as preseason Top 25 teams.
The Baylor Bears entered the new year with 60/1 odds to win it all, but after their loss to Arizona on top of a season of disappointment, the group dropped to 125/1. They were followed by Kansas, who lost a disappointing matchup to Utah recently, which contributed to the Jayhawks’ odds dropping from 28/1 to 50/1. Lastly, Cincinnati, which is already viewed as a long shot to make the 2025 NCAA Tournament, saw its odds go from 65/1 to 500/1.
Outside of the trio, the Big 12 Conference has four teams with greater than 50/1 odds to win it all, including Houston (9/1), Iowa State (20/1), Texas Tech (35/1), and Arizona (45/1). Of the group, the biggest mover has been Texas Tech, who kicked off the year listed at 66/1, and since New Year’s Day, they have cemented themselves as one of the nation’s best units.
