The Kansas Jayhawks and the Oklahoma State Cowboys continue Big 12 Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, in Houston, Texas.
Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. central. Kansas (17-9, 8-7 in Big 12) is hanging on as the No. 23 team in the AP Top 25 while the Cowboys (13-13, 5-10) come into the contest unranked.
Kansas is out of the Big 12 regular season race, but their next two games are as close to “must-win” contests as we’ve seen in quite some time. It might sound peculiar with Colorado and Oklahoma State being two of the bottom four teams in the league, but the Jayhawks are reeling.
Bill Self’s squad has dropped four of their last six games and is 1-3 since their 69-52 win over Iowa State, and after an abysmal 34-point loss at BYU, they’re likely to drop out of next week’s AP Poll. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State picked up a win over UCF earlier this week and would love to pick up a big-time road win in Lawrence.
Here is a preview of Saturday’s game.

Kansas vs. Oklahoma State Predictions
It’s been a rough week for Kansas basketball. Not only did they drop both games during their road trip out West, but they got their doors blown off by BYU and appear to have some serious locker room issues that need to be dealt with.
Inconsistent play isn’t all that uncommon in college basketball, but Kansas has never looked like this under Bill Self. The talent is there, with KU’s starting five having as good an upside as any team in the country. However, the chemistry has been nonexistent for large portions of the season, and as a result, the Jayhawks are tied for sixth place in the Big 12 and are 5-6 in their last 11 games.
Zeke Mayo and Hunter Dickinson are good offensive pieces, but Kansas’ attack has been stagnant with neither AJ Storr or Rylan Griffin bringing anything to the table. Kansas’ athleticism is vastly superior to that of Oklahoma State, and I’m not sure the Pokes will have an answer for Dickinson. BYU killed the Jayhawks on the boards (43 to 33 team rebounds) in their last outing, but Oklahoma State is in the bottom half of the league in rebounding and doesn’t have the shooters from outside to make KU pay for it.
Bill Self has been doing this for a long time, and if this team has anything left in the tank for 2025, they’ll have to start with a win this weekend. KU gets back on track with a comfortable home victory, but their issues are far from over with much tougher games to close out the year.
