The Texas Longhorns are coming off back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances in the past two years and stand to be the top overall team when the preseason AP Poll comes out ahead of the 2025 season.
Arch Manning will take over as the starting quarterback for the Longhorns’ offense, while key pieces like Collin Simmons and Trey Moore will be back on defense—which has actually been the driving force of the last two successful seasons in Austin.
However, there will be at least one part of the Longhorns’ defense that will need retooled in 2025, as UT is set to lose defensive backs coach Terry Joseph to the NFL.
According to a report from Anwar Richardson, Joseph is leaving to take a job with the New Orleans Saints and work under newly hired head coach Kellen Moore.
Joseph has been with the Longhorns since 2021, but also has stops at Notre Dame, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Nebraska, and Tennessee among others.
Now, there’s no reason to believe that Joseph’s departure is going to wreck what should be another good defensive unit in 2025, but it does mean that other schools had better hold on tight to their DB coaches, because one of the biggest jobs in the country just became vacant.
