Hours after Kansas basketball fell to Texas Tech on Saturday, head coach Bill Self dropped an unprecedented statement on X, calling for “Any criticism about the team to be directed at me.”

Self added, “We haven’t had the overall year that we hoped for ourselves, nor the year that many other people have expected, but it hasn’t been from a lack of caring… I’m looking forward to seeing how we bounce back against a terrific Houston team on Monday.”

The statement came hours after senior Zeke Mayo shared direct messages he received that were hateful and racist.

Mayo had just five points in 31 minutes of action. The Lawrence, Kansas native is averaging 14.3 points per game, but has scored six points or less in three of the last four games.
