Texas Longhorns defensive back Jahdae Barron celebrates a turnover against Clemson Tigers in thein the first round of the NCAA College Football Playoffs on Dec. 21, 2024, at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron is coming off an incredible 2024 season that will likely see him go very high in the upcoming NFL Draft next month.

Barron played a critical role in the nation’s best defense, leading the SEC with five interceptions and adding 67 tackles and three tackles for loss. As a result of his outstanding year, Barron was named the winner of the 2025 Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the top defensive back in college football.

Every year, the Jim Thorpe Award is presented to its winner in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, which is just a stone’s throw north of Norman. It appears that Barron took a little extra time to troll the folks on the other side of the Red River when he came to town to collect his trophy.

On Wednesday night, Barron posted a picture of himself posing with the trophy in front of the Switzer Center, where the Oklahoma Sooners’ trophy room is located on the South Endzone of Memorial Stadium.

To top it off, Barron threw a “Horns Up” in the picture, too.

This, of course, sparked all kinds of debate on social media, even sparking a response from former Sooners’ defender, Nik Bonitto.

“Ain’t no way y’all let him make it out of Norman,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Red River Rivalry runs deep between these two programs and is considered one of the best rivalries in all of sports.

Texas has gotten the better of Oklahoma in recent years, winning two of the last three meetings by a combined score of 85-3, their most recent matchup ending in a 34-3 victory for the top-ranked Longhorns.

The Sooners have won five of the last seven meetings, however, and have plenty of leg to stand on in the trash talk—just not of late.
