With the Texas Longhorns on the outside looking in for an NCAA Tournament bid, many have begun to wonder about what job security looks like for Rodney Terry.
On Saturday afternoon, the Houston Chronicle’s Kirk Bohls released an update about Texas’ current head coach and added some context to the situation.
“Source tells me “all’s quiet” on the Rodney Terry front,” Bohls said. “Still probably has to get into NCAA Tournament and win at least two games.”
Terry stepped up as Texas’ interim head coach in 2022-23 after Chris Beard was fired due to some allegations regarding domestic abuse. In his first year at the helm, Terry led the team to an Elite Eight and a 22-8 overall record.
He was awarded the job long-term and hit the ground running with an experienced roster. Unfortunately for Terry, things have gotten worse just about every season he’s spent on the sidelines in Austin. In 2023-24, Texas nearly missed the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 21-13 record and 9-9 in Big 12 play.
Then, the Longhorns made the move to the SEC, where Terry has his team on the wrong side of the bubble in need of some help to reach his third-straight NCAA Tournament.
If Bohls’ information is right, Terry could have a stressful Sunday during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which kicks off on Sunday, March 16th, at 5:00 p.m. central on CBS.
