BYU Basketball 2025 March Madness Seed and Opponent Announced

The 2025 NCAA Tournament selection committee has given the BYU Cougars the No. 6 seed in the East Regional.

BYU will take on No. 11 seed VCU on Thursday in Denver, Colorado. The winner will play either NO. 3 Wisconsin or No. 14 Montana in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

 

VCU has made the NCAA Tournament in two of the past three seasons. VCU reached the NCAA tournament a state record seven consecutive times from 2011 to 2017, including the Final Four in 2011.

Last season, the Cougars were the No. 6 seed in the East Regional. BYU wound up losing to Duquesne in the First Round by a score of 71-67.

BYU Basketball Information Ahead of March Madness

BYU finished the regular season with a 24-9 record, including a 14-6 record in Big 12 play. Recently, the Cougars were bounced from the Big 12 Tournament by the league champion Houston Cougars, 74-54.

The Cougars are led by Richie Saunders, who leads the team in scoring, averaging 16 points per game. Due to his impressive play, Saunders was named the league’s Most Improved Player and a First-Team All-Big 12 selection this year. Elsewhere, the Cougars have an incredibly balanced roster with multiple big-name contributors. Egor Demin, Trevin Knell, Fousseyni Traore, Dallin Hall, Keba Keta, and more are all posting upwards of seven points per game in 2024-25.

BYU has made 31 NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching zero Final Fours and four Elite Eights. The Cougars have an overall record of 15-35 in March Madness.
