There are several major coaching vacancies across college basketball as the 2025 NCAA Tournament gets underway.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen programs from the Big Ten and ACC come open, and perhaps none of them are bigger than the Indiana Hoosiers.
One of the most storied basketball programs in the country, the Hoosiers will be looking to get back to national prominance, and what better way to do that than to go out and grab one of the hottest names available.
According to a report from Jeff Goodman, Darian DeVries has emerged as the “top candidate” for the Indiana job, with Drake head head coach Ben McCollum and a third “mystery” candidate also in the mix.
DeVries has been at West Virginia for just one season, taking over a program that was left in a difficult spot after parting ways with Bob Huggins. Still, DeVries led the Mountaineers to a 19-13 (10-10 Big 12) record and should’ve had WVU in the NCAA Tournament.
The West Virginia Mountaineers were a shocking no-show on Selection Sunday, missing out on being selected in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, despite being projected to make the Big Dance by every expert.
Since the news broke, there has been outrage over WVU missing out in favor of UNC, whose athletic director, Bubba Cunningham, is the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee chairman.
If West Virginia is unable to keep DeVries around, it would be another major hit to the program, but keeping him in Morgantown could prove difficult if Indiana is willing to pool its resources and get back its historic relevance.
