Well, that didn’t take long. It appears that BYU will have to deal with one of their best players from the 2024-25 season in the years ahead as Amari Whiting has committed to Oklahoma State after her visit to Stillwater over the weekend.
Whiting, a sophomore, averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and two steals per game. Her visit and subsequent commitment comes days after Amari’s mother, Amber, was let go as the head coach at BYU.
The Cowgirls are currently enjoying one of the best seasons in program history, as they just wrapped a third-place finish in the Big 12 with a 25-6 overall record. Jacie Hoyt and the Pokes are a seven-seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face South Dakota State in their first-round matchup on Saturday, March 22.
Meanwhile, BYU finished with a 13-17 overall record and ranked 14th out of 16 teams in the final Big 12 standings.
This was just the second season since BYU transitioned over from the West Coast Conference and spent the last three seasons under the direction of Amber Whiting. During her tenure, BYU was 45-51 overall and ended with a losing record in all three years.
Whiting will have at least two years of eligibility remaining with the Cowgirls and figures to be a valuable addition to Jacie Hoyt’s 2025-26 squad.
