It’s been less than 24 hours since West Virginia lost its head basketball coach, but athletic director Wren Baker already has a plan in place.

On Tuesday afternoon, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that DeVries has accepted Indiana’s head coaching job, filling the vacancy and sending the Mountaineers into the coaching carousel.

It all seemed to happen incredibly fast, and now, it appears that was the case for those involved in trying to keep DeVries around, too, as Baker says he was never given the chance to counter Indiana’s offer.

Despite the chaos, it appears the Mountaineers are well on their way to naming his successor.

When discussing a timeline for naming a new head coach, Baker told Tanner Mountz of Blue Gold Sports that there will be “a conclusion in the next few days.”

Since Baker was doing this same process a year ago, it would seem that his list of potential candidates couldn’t be much different from what it was before WVU landed DeVries.

In case you missed it, we’ve come up with a list of potential candidates to replace DeVries, including a name that would undoubtedly make West Virginia fans happy.
