While Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels has had extreme highs and lows throughout his career in Lawrence, one consistency he’s been unable to shake is his unfortunate luck with injuries.

This offseason is no different as the veteran signal caller has to work to come back from knee surgery, which was initially reported as a minor setback.

Kansas head coach Lance Leipold updated Daniels’ offseason progression with the start of spring practice and expressed optimism about a full return in the near future.

“He’s starting to do a few things,” Leipold said. “We’re able to get him out there in some controlled situations. He’s on a throwing program right now, and we’ll continue to see what little bits we can implement him down the stretch, but he’s progressing in every way that he’s supposed to be.”

In his Kansas career, Daniels has thrown for more than 6,700 yards and 45 touchdowns but has struggled with consistency and staying on the field. In 2024, Daniels played 12 games, which is the most action he’s seen in his career, but unfortunately, he took a step back with turnovers.

In the previous four seasons, the California native recorded just 12 interceptions. Last fall alone, he matched that with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 14-12.

Can Kansas get over the hump as a Big 12 title contender? That question will likely reside in what the 2025 version of Jalon Daniels looks like.
