On Sunday afternoon, Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes added a new name to the Class of 2026 with the commitment of three-star tight end Colby Simpson.

Simpson, a 6-foot-5 pass catcher from Westlake Village, California, chose the Utes over offers from 20 different teams, including Arizona State, Arkansas, Minnesota, and more.

Coming out of Oaks Christian High School in the Class of 2026, Simpson is listed as a three-star prospect by the On3 index and the nation’s 1085th-ranked player. He also checks in as the 60th-ranked player at his position and the 104th-ranked player in the state of California.

“It’s a dream come true to commit to Utah,” Simpson said. “I have been visiting other programs, but I knew this was the right place for me. Utah wants to develop me into an all-around tight end who can be a physical blocker and make plays in the passing game. Their tight end development with Kuithe, Kincaid, and Fatheringham was the biggest factor for choosing them.”

With his commitment, Simpson became the Utes’ first addition in the Class of 2026.
