On Saturday, Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks made a splash addition in the transfer portal with the commitment of Illinois transfer Tre White.

White, a 6-foot-7 guard from Dallas, Texas, has been at a different college each season of college basketball, and Kansas will mark his fourth college in as many seasons.

Last season with the Fighting Illini, White posted 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 50.7% of shots from the field. He also shot a career-high 32.9% from three-point land and 82.4% from the charity stripe.

The decision to transfer to Kansas brings home a full circle moment for White, as he had committed to Kansas in 2019, prior to flipping to USC.

Coming out of Prolific Prep in the Class of 2022, White was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 35th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 11th-ranked player at his position and the fourth-ranked player in the state of California.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
