One of the best players from the American conference is headed to the Big 12 in 2025-26, and he’ll play for the same coach that he did this season.

North Texas forward Brenen Lorient will follow his head coach, Ross Hodge, to West Virginia for the 2025 season. It’s worth noting that Lorient is still expected to go through the NBA pre-draft process.

Listed at 6-foot-9, 215 pounds, Lorient played in 36 games in 2024-25 but did not make a single start for the Mean Green. However, that didn’t limit his production, as Lorient averaged 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 56.9% from the field and 47.8% from three-point range.

As a result, Lorient was named the AAC Sixth Man of the Year and was also a First-Team All-AAC Selection in 2024-25.

Prior to his junior season in Denton, Lorient spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic, making 21 appearances for the Owls during their Final Four run in 2022-23 and 31 appearances during the 2023-24 season.

Lorient averaged 24.9 minutes per game over the course of his lone season with UNT, and scored in double figures 23 times. He reach a season and career-high of 20 points in games against High Point and Temple this season.

North Texas ended the 2024-25 season with a 27-9 record and fell one game short of earning a spot in the NIT Championship Game. Meanwhile, West Virginia was 19-13 on the year and was the first team out of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
