Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia Mountaineers landed a commitment from a coveted defender in the state of Florida, with Wellington Palm Beach Center linebacker Cameron Dwyer pledging to the program on Friday.

Dwyer, listed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, is a three-star linebacker in the 2026 Class and held offers from well over a dozen programs, including Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, USF, James Madison, Liberty, Tulane, and Coastal Carolina.

New WVU defensive coordinator and linebacker Zac Alley played a pivotal role in landing Dwyer, and he should fit nicely into Alley’s pressure-first scheme.

Despite being smaller than a traditional linebacker, Dwyer fits Alley’s defense perfectly as he’ll play a hybrid role between linebacker and safety. That will allow him to make the most of his athleticism and ability to cover, making this a notable addition for the program.

Dwyer is set to transition into his senior year and was productive as a junior, recording 54 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss.

He’s the seventh commitment for the Mountaineers’ 2026 class, which now ranks 37th nationally and ninth in the Big 12.
