One of the best players in the Big 12 Conference this season, Houston’s J’Wan Roberts, has been dealing with some unfortunate health setbacks.

He’s been dealing with a lingering ankle injury that’s kept him sidelined in the last two games, and he was even seen on the Houston bench in a boot during the Big 12 Championship Game.

With Houston fans beginning to worry about the status of the star forward, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein posted an update on Roberts’ status for the NCAA Tournament, leaving things up in the air.

“Houston’s J’Wan Roberts (ankle) is receiving treatment and will be re-evaluated tomorrow in terms of his status for the Cougars’ first NCAA Tournament game this week, per Kelvin Sampson,” Rothstein said. “DNP in last two games. Averages 10.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG.”

The injury, while concerning, has been trending in the right direction, as Sampson’s decision to sit Roberts was a preventative move to help him recover for March Madness.

“J’Wan Roberts has a low-lateral right ankle sprain, according to team trainer John Houston,” Houston Chronicle’s Joseph Duarte said. “Roberts did not have any significant swelling or discoloration when he woke up Friday. He’s expected to sit out Saturday to allow time to heal for start of NCAA Tournament.”

Roberts and the Cougars will learn what their NCAA Tournament path looks like in a few short hours as the March Madness Selection Show kicks off at 5:00 central on CBS.
